Youtube Flamenco Guitar Lessons - Punta Umbria (Fandango)
Punta Umbria is the explosive Fandangos de Huelva from Paco de Lucia's 1967 album La Fabulosa Guitarra. It is arguably the best known fandango composed by the maestro. And note that he was 19 years old when he recorded it! To learn how to play Punta Umbria requires patience and maybe a slight shift in perspective :-) Paco played Punta Umbria super fast on the recording. Probably because of his young age and the fact that he wanted to showcase his amazing technique which was unparalleled at the time (still is actually). My recommendation is to practise and play it a bit more slowly. In the youtube video tutorial of Punta Umbria I used 150 bpm as the metronome speed.
The tutorial focuses on various flamenco guitar techniques such as pulgar, arpeggio, picado, free stroke, alzapua, and rasgueado.
I did look for tabs of Punta Umbria for a while before I decided to figure it out by ear. The available tabs ranged from slightly inaccurate to out right wrong. There are many nuances and little finger tricks Paco uses in his recording and I wanted to duplicate all that. I think I was able to do that at least 90%.
